the weakerthans - reconstruction site (2003)

dopo aver lasciato nel 1993 i Propagandhi, di cui era bassista e membro fondatore, John K. Samson - musicista e agitatore letterario (qui) - fonda nel 1997 The Weakerthans: la loro musica è una miscela irresistibile di rock, pop, punk e country. uno di quei gruppi di cui, una volta ascoltati, ci si meraviglia del fatto che non siano famosi; davvero, non sbagliano una canzone. la mia preferenza tra gli album della band va a questo Reconstruction Site del 2003, tanto semplice nelle melodie, quanto complesso e stratificato nei riferimenti culturali e letterari dei testi. la traccia 6, "Our retired explorer...", ad esempio, immagina una cena tra il fiolosofo francese Michel Foucault e l'esploratore britannico Ernest Henry Shackleton
